The Joe Ferrante Music Academy in beautiful Old Town Monrovia (10 minutes east of Pasadena on the 210 freeway) is accepting applications for private piano teachers. Willingness to teach from beginning to late intermediate students in piano is required. If you can teach another instrument, i.e. Voice, Guitar, Violin, Drums etc. that is a plus, too. Composers with sufficient piano skills welcome. If you are also interested in teaching in our early childhood program for ages 3-5 let us know, although this is not required.

Position requires availability to teach on the following three days per week:

Wednesdays from 1-8pm

Fridays from 1-8pm

Sundays 12-6:30pm

This is an established teacher’s teaching studio you will be taking over as she is moving away, so there are many wonderful, talented students to immediately begin teaching! JFMA also handles all student scheduling, phone calls, text and e-mail messages with clients, all customer service, including tuition payments and day to day logistics, and provides beautiful teaching suites for you to work in with a real acoustic piano in every room, allowing you to just focus on being the best teacher you can be! 

An upbeat, outgoing personality and a love of teaching private music lessons to children of all ages is desirable for this position. JFMA Teachers also love to have their students perform in recitals, so encouraging and preparing your pupils to play in public is a required component of this position.

Other duties include giving simple musical tests and handing out practice incentive rewards including bracelets, certificates and trophies on the Musical Ladder system (we will train you how to do this), completing STEP Reports (kind of like student report cards), and preparing, enrolling students in and attending recitals they perform in to cheer them on.

A 4 year (or higher) degree is recommended for this position, although we will accept a 2 year degree in some instances. A minimum of 2 years private teaching experience is also recommended, although if you have less experience but meet the other requirements, you will be considered.

Enjoying working with children is important, please share with us your experience with children professionally or personally in your application. Our lessons are taught one on one and consist of children ages 5-17 typically. You will also have adults ages 18 and over at times, but in smaller quantities.

Pay is $28-32/hr for qualified teachers, commensurate with education and experience plus room to grow in the future. JFMA pays teachers as W-2 Employees so we will also contribute an additional 7.65% on top of your regular pay towards your social security and medicare cost, which if you were paid as a 1099 sub-contractor at another school, you would be responsible to pay that 7.65% yourself as part of your 15.3% self-employment tax each year when you file your tax return! Working at JFMA takes away this worry, saving you money at tax time.

Please note, this position is for in-person teaching at our Academy studios located at 126 and 138 ½ E. Colorado Blvd., Monrovia, CA 91016. Some students may elect to attend in person and some may attend virtually but your teaching will be in person in our beautiful teaching suites regardless of how the student attends.
