Job Description

The Estimator is responsible for analyzing and preparing cost estimates for asphalt and concrete construction projects. This role requires strong technical expertise and analytical skills to develop accurate estimates that support project feasibility, cost control, and company profitability. The Estimator works closely with the sales team, project managers, operations, and engineers to ensure estimates align with project requirements and company capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimate Preparation: Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and drawings to develop accurate cost estimates for asphalt and concrete projects (paving, repairs, new construction, etc.).
  • Cost Analysis: Calculate material, labor, equipment, and overhead costs, incorporating industry pricing trends and historical data to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.
  • Proposal Development: Prepare detailed bid proposals with cost breakdowns, schedules, and potential risk considerations to support project planning.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with sales team, project managers, and operations staff to ensure estimates align with project scope, resource availability, and budget constraints.
  • Technical Evaluation: Provide input on project feasibility, material selection, and construction methods to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Industry Research: Stay up to date with market trends, competitor pricing, and advancements in asphalt and concrete construction techniques.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of estimates, project cost history, and bid tracking to support future forecasting and decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in estimating within the asphalt, concrete, or construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of asphalt and concrete materials, construction processes, and pricing structures.
  • Proficiency in estimation software, Excel, and other relevant tools.
  • Ability to interpret project specifications, drawings, and blueprints.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, including sales, project management, and operations.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in estimating within the asphalt, concrete, or construction industry.
  • Knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
